THE LIBRARY GOES TO THE DOGS
BARK-9 will begin its Fall/Winter programs in the Youth Services Department at the Broome County Public Library, 185 Court St., Binghamton. The program will run on Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon beginning October 4 and continuing to December 6, 2008.
BARK-9 is a therapy-dog program that promotes reading skills and encourages children who may be reluctant readers.
Location: Broome County Public Library.

Kids' Bookfest
Celebrate books, reading and storytelling on Saturday, November 22, from 10am to 4pm at the Discovery Center, 60 Morgan Rd. in Binghamton. Admission is free to any family with a library card. Planned activities include: *A visual presentation by author and illustrator Matthew McElligott, who also will sign books. *Book-related crafts and activities for children, sponsored by local public libraries and community agencies. *An exchange of gently used children's books. *Appearances by Art Dog, Miss Spider and other characters. *Sales of children's books, food and beverages. *A special workshop by Mr. McElligott for children in grades four and up. Seating is limited and registration is required. Call the Discovery Center at 773-8661. Bookfest 2008 is sponsored by the Four County Library System, The Discovery Center of the Southern Tier, and the BOOKS Program with Senator Libous.

"The Gruffalo"
Adapted from the picture book, "The Gruffalo" by Julia Donaldson, illustrated by Alex Scheffler, this show has music and lyrics by Jon Fiber and Olivia Jacobs, with additional music and lyrics by Robin Price and Andy Shaw.
In the play, Mouse can scare away hungry animals with tall stories of the terrifying Gruffalo. What happens though when he comes face to face with the creature he imagined? The play is an hour long, providing laughs and fun for children ages 3 and up with a caretaker.
