Books Open Opportunities for Kids to Succeed

"Read for the Record 2007" at The Discovery Center

On September 20, 2007, BOOKS, along with the Penguin Group and The Discovery Center, sponsored Jumpstart’s “Read for the Record 2007”. The previous record for the largest shared reading experience ever, of 150,000 people, set on August 24, 2006, was broken! Over 258,000 children all across the country participated on that day!

Each child got a personal copy of The Story of Ferdinand by Munro Leaf, compliments of BOOKS! “Matador”, Bill Gorman, read the book aloud with help from his friends “Bee” and the Discovery Center’s own “Blossom” the bull.
Each boy got a cool matador hat to wear… and each girl got a flower!
Families read together. Families shared the fun with each other.
Even the littlest listener enjoyed the story! Everyone had a great time at “Read for the Record 2007”!
